24-hour emergency service
After-hours service: what counts as an emergency, pricing, response times, and what to check before you call.
We treat as an emergency
- No heat when it is below 40 degrees outside
- No cooling when it is above 85 degrees outside
- A gas smell (leave the house, call the gas company first, then us)
- Water leaking from the furnace or air handler onto the floor
- Carbon monoxide detector alarm (leave the house and call 911 first)
- Burning smell or smoke from the equipment
After-hours pricing
Diagnostic fee $189 (Sunday, holidays, and 7 PM to 7 AM). Repair pricing is the same flat-rate book as daytime; there is no labor surcharge beyond the diagnostic fee. Comfort Club members pay the regular $89 fee.
Response time
Within six hours after hours, often faster. The dispatcher will give you an arrival window when you call. Priority goes to households with infants, seniors, or medical conditions, and to extreme temperatures.
Try these first (they fix about one call in five)
- Check the thermostat is set to Heat or Cool and the setpoint is past the room temperature. Replace thermostat batteries.
- Check the furnace switch (looks like a light switch on or near the furnace) is on.
- Check the breaker panel for a tripped breaker. Reset it once. If it trips again, stop and call.
- Check the air filter. A clogged filter can shut a furnace down on high limit or freeze an AC coil.
- AC only: if the indoor coil or the copper line is iced up, turn the system off and the fan to On for two hours before calling. We cannot diagnose a frozen system.
- Furnace only: make sure the outside intake and exhaust pipes (white PVC) are not blocked by snow or leaves.
Gas smell
Leave the house immediately. Do not flip switches. Call Kansas Gas Service (888-482-4950), Evergy, or Spire from outside, then call us.
